Financial forensic analyst Atty. Alexander Cabrera said Monday he did not use any documents coming from Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, Manases Carpio, when doing the report detailing findings on the couple’s financial records.

Cabrera made the confirmation during his cross-examination by defense counsel Kristine Ferrer on Day 38 of the trial.

“According to page 1 of your report, if you can refer to it, you did not examine or use any document coming from the respondent and her spouse. Correct?” Ferrer asked.

Cabrera tried to explain his answer but was stopped by the defense lawyer midway, asking him to simply answer the question.

“Wala po kasi, ‘yan po ‘yung sagot. Wala po kasi do’n sa reply, ‘yung answer niya sa House at saka sa Senate. Wala po kasi,” the witness said.

(There was none, that’s the answer. It’s not in the reply, in her answer to the House of Representatives and the Senate. There was nothing.)

Ferrer clarified if his answer means yes.

“Had there been, I would have used po,” Cabrera said.

Ferrer pressed Cabrera if the answer was yes, which the witness answered in the affirmative.

The defense lawyer also asked him if he did not interview Duterte, Carpio, their accountants and their auditors. Cabrera affirmed.

Based on Cabrera’s report, which was presented in the Senate impeachment court, documents that were analyzed involved Duterte’s Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN) from 2022 to 2025; reports from the Anti–Money Laundering Council (AMLC); income tax returns filed by Duterte and Carpio; their bank statements and bank records; and the financial statements of corporations they have interest in, among others.

The witness noted he received bank documents from the prosecution beginning the second week of September.

He, however, said he does not recall seeing transmittal letters from the prosecution. He said he did not also give the prosecution a list of documents that he received.

During the trial on Friday, Cabrera revealed findings that Duterte and her husband supposedly had P817.87 million in allegedly undeclared assets and income from 2022 to 2025.

Cabrera said he had arrived at the number after piercing the corporate veil—a legal principle wherein the court overlooks the company's separate legal personality and directly holds the individuals responsible.

The financial analyst put together the Duterte-Carpio couple's undeclared cash, undeclared personal and other real properties, undeclared income, undeclared income from companies Cale88 and Metro City, and total undeclared income from Gencorp, from 2022 to 2025. —AOL, GMA News
