The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Saturday said it conducted a preliminary investigation on Friday, October 9, on the obstruction of justice complaint filed against Senator Robin Padilla.
The next hearing will be held on Friday, November 6, DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez said, according to a report by GMA News reporter Katrina Son.
On May 28, the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) filed a complaint for obstruction of justice against Padilla and others with the DOJ over the escape of Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa from the Senate building.
Former PNP chief Dela Rosa, who is the subject of an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court for “alleged criminal responsibility as an indirect co-perpetrator” in the crimes against humanity of murder during the Duterte administration's war on drugs, sought refuge at the Senate on May 11 after authorities attempted to serve the said arrest warrant. However, he slipped out of the Senate building on May 14.
Padilla previously maintained that he did not help Dela Rosa “escape” as the former police chief only asked to hitch a ride with him out of the Senate building on May 14. —KG, GMA News
