Sourdough Sophia shares the best bread for toasting and her bougie butter of choice

Fattoria La Vialla’s Extra Virgin Olive Oil (£15.15, lavialla.com). I order it directly from their farm in Tuscany. It’s super nutty.
Takeaway drink of choice?
A chai from Dishoom. It’s the best in London. I don’t like chai to be superficially sweet; I want to taste the individual spice notes.

Favourite UK restaurant?
Angelina in Dalston, east London (angelina.london). It’s Japanese Italian fusion, and the menu is so innovative. A perfect date-night spot.
Condiment that improves every meal?
Casa Firelli Italian Truffle Hot Sauce. It’s a pure umami hit.
Best bread for toasting?
Sourdough all the way. I usually go for the darker types, made with older varieties of wheat. They’re crispy but gooey on the inside.
Choice of butter?
The Estate Dairy (£3.50, ocado.com). You can smell the cultured and fermented notes when you spread it on your toast.
Bougiest thing in your fridge?
An entire Baron Bigod cheese from Fen Farm Dairy. It’s very strong, so it makes the place stink, but it’s the best cheese I have ever tasted.
Ready meal of choice?
The M&S Beef Shin & Chianti Tortelloni (£6, ocado.com) paired with Belazu Wild Mushroom Pesto (£3.60, belazu.com), is as close as I’d get to a ready meal. Its rich, deep flavour is like autumn on a plate.
One item that’s overrated?
Vanilla extract because you’re paying a lot of money for five per cent of vanilla flavour. Just buy whole vanilla pods in bulk, make your own vanilla paste and you’ll get 100 times the flavour for a fraction of the price.
Best fish and chips in the UK?
I studied in Bristol, and the best fish and chips I ever had was from the Clifton Village Fish Bar (cliftonvillage fishbar.co.uk). It’s quite an institution. The fish was freshly caught and didn’t feel too greasy.
Food/drink item you always pack when you go abroad?
I’m German, but I’ve become so British now that I bring Yorkshire Gold tea everywhere.
Nutty triangles are a taste of home
Uber Eats order?
Honest Burgers are my vice. My local does a Finsbury Park 2.0 burger – essentially a fried chicken burger with Korean hot sauce. I pair with wings, onion rings… and salad.
Most useful kitchen utensil or gadget?
My Ninja Foodi 9-in-1 Multi-Cooker (£239.99, debenhams.com). I use it for slow cooking, pressure cooking and air frying. I’ve even baked in it. It never fails me.
Best spot for drinks with a view?
Sundara Beach Club at the Four Seasons Resort, Jimbaran Bay in Bali. They had a fire pit outside even though it was 30 degrees, and you watch the sunset with a beautiful drink.
Favourite sweet treat?
When I go home to Frankfurt, the local bakeries sell what we call nutty triangles: a shortbread base with apricot jam and a nut caramel on top dipped in chocolate. They’re divine.
Best Sunday roast?
The Parakeet in Kentish Town – one of my favourite restaurants (theparakeetpub.com). The chef Ben Allen cooks everything on fire, so the dishes have a depth of flavour that you wouldn’t normally get from pub food.
Sunday best: The Parakeet
Recommendation for cheap eats?
Jai Krishna, a vegetarian Indian restaurant on Stroud Green Road in north London, is good (jaikrishna.co.uk). Four people can get really full for less than £40.
Favourite supermarket chocolate?
It’s Lindt Excellence Dark Orange Intense (£3.50, tesco.com) if I want to have a little pick-me-up in the evening.
