Ministry seeks wider funding access for game developers

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Creative Economy has conducted a strategy to widen access to funding for local game developers in Indonesia to help them optimize their business development.

Speaking at the "Tencent White Paper Launch" at the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2026 here on Thursday, the ministry's Games Director Luat Sihombing said the government is stepping up promotion of using intellectual property (IP) as collateral to obtain bank loans.

"In terms of funding, the Indonesian government has set regulations on how IP can become collateral so it can obtain loans from banks," he said.

He added that the ministry continues to encourage and share knowledge on how to optimize this mechanism as one funding option for IP companies.

Sihombing said game developers and financing providers need a better understanding of the terms and mechanisms of IP-collateral-based funding.

"Between lenders and users there are still many adjustments to make. They need to understand each other's risks, the benefits that can be obtained, and technically how long the loan repayment period will be," he said.

Besides promoting IP as collateral for accessing funding, the ministry collaborates with other ministries to provide funding support.

"For example, there is the Culture Fund, which is also provided for the gaming industry. Several developers in Indonesia have already managed to obtain this fund," Sihombing said.

According to information on the Culture Ministry's official website, the Dana Indonesia Raya funding program can provide Rp200 million for independent or individual developers and Rp1.5 billion for institutions or companies.

The Creative Economy Ministry also records the needs and obstacles faced by game development businesses so it can provide solutions through government policies and programs.

"We are trying to list what the industry's needs and problems are at the moment, and then we provide solutions through various ministry policies and programs," Sihombing said.
