Bestselling author Melinda Leigh is back with a new thriller, The Courier. An award-winning author of romantic suspense and thriller novels, Melinda Leigh shot to fame after the success of her debut novel, She Can Run. A life-long lover of books, this "fully recovered banker" started writing to retain her sanity while bringing up her kids, and she's turned it into a phenomenal career.
Her next book, The Courier, is due to release on March 2, 2027. Screen Rant is proud to exclusively reveal the cover:
The Courier Is A Thrilling New Spy Adventure
In addition, here's the official synopsis for The Courier, described as a "pulse-pounding new thriller":
When diplomatic courier Daisy is framed for an attack meant to kill her—and cover up a stolen package—she’s forced to go on the run across Europe. To clear her name, she must uncover what was taken and why it was worth her life. Packed with international intrigue, a deadly conspiracy, and a heroine racing to stay one step ahead of her pursuers, THE COURIER delivers a cinematic, high-stakes thriller.
Melinda Leigh is well-known for writing enticing mysteries, and her stories are rooted in the real world. "Research is never-ending for books that focus on crime," she told Publisher's Weekly. "Laws and forensic science are constantly changing. It’s important to stay up-to-date to keep the stories fresh, interesting, and relevant." She credits her grandmother's influence for her love of mysteries, given she was raised on novels by Rex Stout, Agatha Christie, Sue Grafton, and Lillian Jackson Braun, to name just a few.
The interesting question is whether there'll be any recurring characters in The Courier; Leigh is well known for spinning characters out into new stories. Sheriff Bree Taggert was Leigh's first protagonist, a sheriff who starred in a series of police procedurals, while she's also written novels starring true crime writer (and crime solver) Olivia Cruz. Whatever the case may be, readers can expect mystery and intrigue; as Leigh explained to The Nerd Daily:
"I enjoy laying out the clues and misdirecting the reader. It’s like creating a logic puzzle. Plotting a mystery adds an additional layer of challenge to the novel writing process that I find fascinating. Plus, I was always a math geek, which is why I was once a financial analyst. I view plotting a mystery as a series of linear equations that intersect at the same point."
The Courier sounds to be a fresh development for Leigh, given she's moving into international espionage and a dark conspiracy. As always, though, there will no doubt be a phenomenal well-developed heroine at the center of it — albeit one who's facing terrifying threats and deadly pursuers. Given Leigh's prestige, this will no doubt be one of the most eagerly-anticipated thrillers of 2027. More details will be revealed over the coming days, but Screen Rant is proud to unveil this first look as readers learn more about the upcoming adventure.
