EastEnders confirms full details of Nancy Carter's mysterious Walford return

EastEnders’ Linda Carter and Max Branning prepare to tell their loved ones about their secret relationship next week – a move prompted by Linda’s daughter Nancy unexpectedly rocking up in Albert Square! But why is Nancy back, and how will she react to her mum’s shock romance?

"Linda is already anxious about the potential backlash to her liaison with Max," begins our Walford insider, "then she comes face to face with Nancy! Things get even more chaotic when she discovers why her daughter has returned…"

The week begins with Nancy setting foot in Walford for the first time since she made a hasty exit in 2022, following the breakdown of her relationship with Zack and a tense showdown with her mum.

Nancy is in town to speak to her brother Johnny and get some urgent legal advice from her lawyer sibling. But she makes it very clear that she doesn’t want Linda to know about their clandestine chat…

Meanwhile, Linda is blissfully unaware her offspring is back and is enjoying sneaking around with Max after the pair recently confessed their true feelings for one another. But the couple’s bubble is suddenly burst when Annie and Ollie catch them kissing!

"This is definitely not the way Linda envisioned her kids finding out about her new relationship," says our source. "She is upset and wants to come clean, but Max is adamant that they can’t tell anyone they’re together until his marriage to Cindy is officially annulled."

Later, it’s Max who breaks the news to Linda that Nancy is back in Walford, and Linda and Elaine waste no time in rushing to catch up with their estranged family member.

Linda and Nancy’s relationship wasn’t exactly left on the best note four years ago, and it seems not much has changed as it isn’t long before mother and daughter are caught up in another tense row.

As their argument escalates, furious Linda storms off. However, Nancy soon comes back to the Square to reveal a huge secret…

"Just why Nancy is back in E20 remains under wraps for now," teases our insider. "But when Linda finally gets answers about her daughter’s return, she is totally shocked…"

In the aftermath of Nancy’s revelation, relations are strained between the Carters, and Elaine and Johnny attempt to smooth things over.

But it’s then that Linda decides to finally be honest with her loved ones about her relationship with Max, hoping that they’ll in turn be more truthful with her.
