Inter had to come from behind yet again to claim a 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in Serie A on Sunday afternoon, which has kept the Nerazzurri at the top of the league table for another week and has provided Cristian Chivu and his team with two encouraging statistics.
Inter off to a better start than any of their last three title-winning campaigns
Inter are now up to 22 points from their first eight games of the 2026-27 season. This is their best start in Serie A for the last 10 seasons, dating back to the 2017-18 campaign under Luciano Spalletti, and is also a better start than any of the club’s last three Serie A title-winning campaigns.

They are already seven points better off than they were at the same stage of last season, when they went on to win the Scudetto in Chivu’s first season in charge. They are three points better off than they were at the same stage of the 2023-24 season under Simone Inzaghi and seven points better off than they were under Antonio Conte after eight games of the 2020-21 season.
They are also part of a group of four clubs, along with Lazio, Roma and Milan, to have made Serie A history at the start of the 2026-27 season: This is the first time that four clubs have gone eight league games without tasting defeat in the Italian top flight.
Up next for the Nerazzurri is a trip to Venezia on Wednesday evening before a highly-anticipated Derby della Madonnina against Milan on Saturday.
