‘Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang,’ ‘Sister Stella L’ to lead PFIM 2026 screenings
With the theme “Pelikula: Ginintuang Ikalawa,” this year’s celebration of the Philippine Film Industry Month (PFIM) will feature screenings of digitally restored classics including Lino Brocka’s “Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang” and Mike de Leon’s “Sister Stella L,” among others.
The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) announced PFIM’s monthlong activities that celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Second Golden Age of Philippine Cinema.
The screening of “Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang” will kick off the celebration at the Red Carpet Cinema, Shangri-La Plaza on Sept. 4, along with the announcement of the Philippines’ entry to the 2027 Oscars Best International Feature Film category.

Other digitally restored classics — including de Leon’s “Itim,” Brocka’s “Insiang,” Mario O’Hara’s “Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos,” Lupita Aquino-Kashiwahara’s “Minsa’y Isang Gamu-Gamo,” Eddie Romero’s “Ganito Kami Noon… Paano Kayo Ngayon?” and Ishmael Bernal’s “Nunal sa Tubig” — will be showcased throughout the month at FDCP Cinematheque Centres nationwide.

The audiences will also be taken further back in time with the “SineUna: Cinematic Action Before the War,” which will feature Eduardo de Castro’s “Zamboanga,” Carlos Vander Tolosa’s “Giliw Ko,” Vicente Salumbide’s “Ibong Adarna” and Octavio Silos’ “Tunay na Ina” and “Pakiusap.”
Meanwhile, the newly digitally-restored “Sister Stella L” will have its grand homecoming on Sept. 20 at the Metropolitan Theater as part of the “Mga Hiyas ng Sineng Pilipino,” which is co-presented by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

Other key PFIM 2026 events include the “Reel to Real: Pelikula at Panayam,” which will spotlight Brocka’s “Jaguar”; the Director’s Series, which will feature Jeffrey Jeturian’s “Tuhog” and “Kubrador”; the world premiere of Mike Alcazaren’s documentary film “Kodomo-tachi: Children of the War” on Sept. 17; the inaugural edition of the PFIM Short Film Competition; Sine Kabataan 2026; and the return of the Film Education Convention (FilmEc).
