After his comic book debut as a government-deployed weapon sent to eliminate the gamma monster in The Incredible Hulk #180, Wolverine quickly transcended his "Hulk antagonist" origin to become the face of the X-Men. Once he broke free from Canada's Department H and found a true family under Charles Xavier, Logan's evolved into a full-fledged superhero, and throughout the years, he recognized his own suffering in Hulk's tragic struggle to contain his inner monsters built by military experimentation. Hulk and Wolverine have put their differences aside to join forces countless times.

However, Hulk and Wolverine's respect has never stopped them from engaging in blood-soaked brawls across every single form of media. In the comics, their legendary rivalry features shocking milestones ranging from Todd McFarlane's iconic Incredible Hulk #340 cover to the jaw-dropping savagery of the Ultimate Universe, where a rogue Hulk literally tears Wolverine in half on a mountaintop in Tibet. This matchup has also translated into animation with the 2009 movie Hulk Vs. Wolverine, where Wolverine stabs Bruce Banner in the stomach just to force a gamma transformation. Eldest has thrived in possession of the Hulk's body, and the Infernal Hulk has left Earth's entire superhero community with no counterattack. Even Captain Marvel herself has admitted that her immense power is useless against the Infernal Hulk. However, Wolverine never quits, and his healing factor guarantees him an even battle against Eldest's gamma monster. In The Infernal Hulk vs Wolverine's title match, Logan and the Green Goliath engage in their bloodiest battle so far, with both of them gouging their eyes out, slicing entire parts of their heads off, and cutting off limbs without remorse.

The Infernal Hulk vs Wolverine features nauseating action that puts the titular villain's strength into perspective. Although Logan is more than used to experiencing severe injuries in battle, the Infernal Hulk doesn't hold back, crushing Wolverine with his bare hands, biting his arms, and smashing the X-Man onto the walls and floor. Wolverine ends up with his eyes hanging outside their sockets and a large part of his adamantium-coated skull exposed. Meanwhile, the Infernal Hulk keeps fighting through a split head, a chopped arm, and sliced fingers, and yet he has mostly recovered by the time Jubilee arrives to help Logan.

Wolverine and Hulk's accelerated healing factors basically guarantee that neither of them can ever truly put the other down for good. Hulk's flesh and skin are incredibly tough to pierce, and his regenerative abilities negate any injuries he may sustain, as severe as they might be. As The Infernal Hulk vs Wolverine confirms, slicing off a significant part of Hulk's head and brain has no effect on his health. And if Wolverine were to land a fatal strike, Hulk would simply cross the Green Door to come back with a vengeance.

The Hulk faces an equally impossible challenge. No matter how much the Green Goliath's strength increases with his rage, it's virtually impossible for him to break Wolverine's adamantium skeleton through sheer physical force alone. Even if the Hulk manages to strip away every bit of Wolverine's flesh and obliterate most of his external organic matter, Logan's indestructible bones preserve enough material to regenerate his entire body. Ultimately, Wolverine and Hulk's feud is destined to be Marvel's modern representation of an unstoppable force clashing against an immovable object.
