Brad Pitt may have to face the Alaskan wilderness in Heart of the Beast, but working with his four-legged co-star came with a different kind of challenge. The actor recently shared how he kept Odin, played mainly by the dog Uber, focused during the shoot.

Pitt revealed that he often carried boiled chicken in his pockets to keep Uber engaged on set. The unusual trick came in handy during some of the film’s more emotional scenes.

While filming Heart of the Beast, Brad Pitt worked with military K-9 specialist Steve Stoops. The actor explained that the team followed techniques inspired by the way military dogs are trained and cared for.

Brad Pitt Used Boiled Chicken To Keep Uber Focused

“They make sure that they’re having fun, that they’re cared for, that they’re loved, that there’s something adventurous for them in that day. They treat them that way, and it was the same for us with Odin, played by Uber.”

Filming in New Zealand came with plenty of distractions for Uber, including different smells and things happening around the set. Pitt found a simple way to bring the dog’s attention back when needed.

“And I just kept a lot of boiled chicken in my pocket, and real good in the middle of a scene, like being emotional and then having to stop and, like, bring us some boiled chicken, and we’d get right back into the scene, right here with me.”

While the trick helped keep his canine companion engaged, it had one rather hilarious consequence for Pitt, who joked, “But yeah, I really can’t eat chicken since I got sick.”
