Egypt, Uzbekistan discuss expanding food security cooperation

Agriculture and Land Reclamation Minister Alaa Farouk said on Friday, September 18, 2026, Egypt and Uzbekistan have strong historic ties and that political leadership has exerted efforts to expand economic and agricultural cooperation and promote investment opportunities to support sustainable food security.

Farouk made the remarks during a meeting with a high-level Uzbek government delegation to discuss cooperation in agriculture, food security, and mutual investment.

He highlighted Egypt’s recent advances in desert land reclamation, including the Future of Egypt project, as well as research efforts to develop high-yield, climate-resilient crops and water-saving farming technologies.

The Uzbek delegation expressed keenness to benefit from Egyptian expertise, particularly seed development and seed production.

The two sides agreed to expand cooperation to livestock, veterinary services and applied agricultural research, while supporting partnerships between government institutions, research centers and the private sector.
