However, when both teams take the field on Sunday, some major names are likely be missing from the team sheet owing to various reasons.
Take a look at the absentees for Barcelona vs Real Madrid La liga 2026-27 match:
BARCELONA
Dani Olmo - Spanish midfielder Dani Olmo suffered an injury during Barcelona’s midweek loss against PSG in the Champions League. He was forced to leave the pitch midway through the first half with a thigh injury, and Barcelona confirmed that Olmo will be out for approximately one month.
Eric Garcia - Defender Eric Garcia suffered an injury to his right thigh during Barcelona’s 5-2 win against Real Betis earlier this month. The club announced that the Spaniard’s recovery time is estimated to be around three to four weeks.
Jules Kounde - Just like Eric Garcia, Frenchman Jules Kounde also picked up an injury during the clash against Betis. Although he completed the match, he suffered a left ankle sprain and did not play against PSG, with the club closely monitoring his situation for the Real Madrid game.
Andreas Christensen - Danish centre-back Andreas Christensen was taken off hurt during Barca’s 3-1 win at Sevilla in September and was diagnosed with a thigh injury. “He will be out for the next few weeks, and his progress will determine his availability,” Barca said in a statement.
Roony Bardghji - Barcelona’s young Swedish winger Roony Bardghji ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during a training session in August. He has undergone surgery and will be out for the majority of the ongoing season.
REAL MADRID
Vinicius Jr - Winger Vinicius Jr will be the biggest miss for Real Madrid as he is serving a ban for a red card he received during his side’s 1-0 win against Villarreal earlier this month. The Brazilian pulled Nathan Saliba’s hair in the build-up to scoring a goal, which was disallowed before he was shown marching orders.
He was suspended for two games for “behaving violently... (while) not being in a position to challenge for the ball” and a further two matches for “protests” to the officials.
Rodrygo - Real Madrid will not have the services of its other Brazilian winger, Rodrygo, who has been sidelined since March this year. He suffered a ruptured ACL and a tear of the lateral meniscus in his right leg, which will keep him away from the pitch until atleast the start of next year.
Thibaut Courtois - The Belgian goalkeeper is set to miss his first La Liga game of the season due to the flu. Illia Voloshyn has been called up to the senior squad to provide cover to Anriy Lunin who is set to start.
