Ramirez’s former boyfriend, Negros Occidental Rep. Javi Benitez, also remembered the actress’ mom whom he called “Mommy Chit.”

“This is how I will remember Mommy Chit… flowers in her arms, that radiant smile, beautiful and completely herself,” he said via his Facebook page, showing a photo of Chit holding a bouquet of flowers he gave her.

“Make no mistake, she was not soft. She had strong opinions and stronger principles, and she fought for the Filipino worker like it was personal. So when she smiled at you like this, you knew you mattered. I brought her flowers whenever I could. She always gave back more,” he recalled.

Chit was a labor leader who served as the vice president of Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP). The organization paid tribute to her through a Facebook post.

Ramirez opened up about her mom’s health ordeal in January as she appealed for blood donors for Chit’s open heart surgery. The exact reason for the hospitalization was not immediately disclosed to the public. /edv
