Strong winds to hit north-west Scotland as weather warning issued

Strong winds are set to hit parts of north-west Scotland on Wednesday, with forecasters warning of disruption to travel and possible power cuts.
The warning comes into force at 10am on Wednesday and lasts until 7pm.
The forecaster said strong south to south westerly winds are expected, with gusts of between 50-60mph expected widely.
Some exposed coastal and hilly areas could potentially see gusts of around 70mph around late morning and early afternoon.
The forecaster said the weather conditions mean delays to road, air and ferry transport are “likely”, with bus and train services also potentially being affected.
It said there may also be delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges, as well as possible short-term loss of power and other services.
Sailings on a number of Calmac ferry routes have been cancelled or disrupted on Wednesday as a result of the weather, with some disruption continuing into Thursday.
Scotrail said heavy rainfall also means speed restrictions are expected to be in place on the West Highland Line between Fort William and Mallaig throughout Wednesday and until Thursday at 10am.
