UP body calls out NTF-Elcac for red-tagging students, constituents
MANILA, Philippines — A committee at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman on Monday condemned the “continuous red-tagging, harassment and intimidation” of its constituents, especially students, by agents and supporters of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-Elcac).
The UP Diliman Committee on the Protection of Academic Freedom and Human Rights said that it was standing with students, faculty, staff and other community members “who are fighting against the blatant and shameless corruption and impunity in government.”

It called as “malicious” and “harmful” social media posts by NTF-Elcac agents and groups such as the Hands of Our Children “showing photos of our constituents and accusing them of being terrorists.”

“It creates an environment that is anxiety-inducing and produces a chilling effect on members of progressive groups that are critical of repressive government policies,’’ the committee said in a statement.
It added that “activism is not terrorism,” citing a 2024 Supreme Court decision that declared that Red-tagging threatens “a person’s right to life, liberty, or security.” /cb
