Kaizer Chiefs reject USA offer for top prospect star?

Kaizer Chiefs prodigy Steven Mendes is earning rave reviews after his exploits for Amajita in Mozambique. Will he be tempted by a move?
Khumalo backs ‘Stevie G’ for the Kaizer Chiefs first team
Chiefs Diski Challenge coach Vela Khumalo believes 18-year-old sensation Steven Mendes already possesses the maturity and raw ability to represent the Chiefs first team. Mendes won the Golden Boot at the recent COSAFA U20 tournament in Maputo, Mozambique. Mendes, nominally a midfielder, was converted into a striker for the event. He’s nicknamed ‘Stevie G’ by some teammates. According to local reports, MLS side Chicago Fire are sniffing around the talented teenager.
When are Chiefs next in action?
Chiefs have now drawn four of their seven league matches, dropping points in four of their last five. The goals have dried up somewhat too, with just a single strike in their last two matches. Wandile Duba, scorer of three goals in four Betway Premiership outings this term, is a big miss. Their next outing in the league is against Stellenbosch on Saturday, 17 October at 15:30. Supporters will hope that the long international break came at a good time and can refocus the team’s efforts.
Injury update from Naturena
Although several players are sidelined Chiefs, it’s not all doom and gloom. Long-term absentee Langelihle Phili could be back in mid-October, while Rushwin Dortley was an unused substitute against Golden Arrows. The talented 24-year-old defender hasn’t played a competitive match for Chiefs since sustaining a serious knee injury in March 2025. His return will be a welcome sight for supporters.
