Fake cop nabbed after road rage, encounter with traffic enforcers


MANILA, Philippines — A 28-year-old businessman who allegedly pretended to be a police officer was arrested in Parañaque City following a road rage incident, the Southern Police District (SPD) said Monday.

According to the SPD in a statement, the suspect, identified only by his alias “Kim,” was initially involved in a road rage confrontation in which he allegedly chased a fellow motorist while shouting offensive and insulting remarks around 8:20 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17.

The suspect then stopped near five on-duty traffic enforcers at the corner of Doña Soledad Avenue and France Street in Barangay Don Bosco, Parañaque City, and allegedly introduced himself as a police officer.

He eventually challenged the enforcers to a fistfight while reeking of alcohol, shouting vulgar remarks and refusing to follow instructions to calm down.
The enforcers then restrained him, while the victim in the earlier road rage incident returned to the scene and identified him.
Meanwhile, responding police officers from the Don Bosco Police Sub-Station conducted an identity verification, but the suspect failed to present any police identification card, badge or official documentation to support his claim of being a law enforcement officer.
The suspect was subsequently brought to the police station for proper documentation and inquest proceedings.

Formal complaints for usurpation of authority under Article 177, disobedience to a person in authority under Article 151, unjust vexation under Article 287, alarms and scandals under Article 155 of the Revised Penal Code, and grave threats are set to be filed against him.
SPD Director PBGen. Glenn Cinco, for his part, issued a stern warning against individuals who “falsely represent themselves as law enforcement officers.”
