Mobile police station deployed at Najib's residence to manage transfer security

KUALA LUMPUR: A mobile police station will be deployed near former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's official residence in Langgak Duta here from 7am tomorrow to facilitate security during any transfer from prison.

Sentul district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam said the deployment aims to manage safety during the transition process, accommodate local and foreign media, control traffic, and manage supporters.

"The mobile police station is not for the purpose of providing 24-hour security for Datuk Seri Najib. It is to provide security during his return process, including for local and foreign media, neighbours, and to prevent traffic congestion and the presence of supporters," he said when contacted today.

Regarding the official confirmation of the residence for house arrest, Anuar Bakri said police have yet to receive formal details.

"I cannot confirm it because I have not received any information either, but one of Datuk Seri Najib's official residences is under my jurisdiction. There is a possibility that other residences belonging to him are also being considered," he said.

On monitoring arrangements, Anuar Bakri clarified that the primary responsibility lies with the Prisons Department rather than the police.

Four Prisons Department officers visited the Langgak Duta residence yesterday to conduct an inspection and assessment.

"The responsibility is under the Prisons Department because four prison officers came yesterday to conduct an inspection and assessment. The police will only facilitate Datuk Seri Najib's movement and, at the same time, ensure the safety of the media," he said.

Police deployment during the operation will consist of one supervisor and two personnel, supported by a Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) unit.

Yesterday, Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said standard operating procedures for Najib's house arrest, including visitation, security, and movement monitoring, would be finalised upon receiving the official order.

On Friday, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, granted a conditional pardon allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to a RM50 million fine.

The decision was reached during the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya at Istana Negara.

Najib has been serving his prison sentence at Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022, following his conviction in the SRC International case.
