Accra Rehabilitation Centre appeals for more support beyond food donations

Translate

The Accra Rehabilitation Centre is appealing for additional support, including teaching materials, to help meet the needs of its inmates.

The appeal follows a five-day corporate social responsibility exercise by Melcom Ghana, through the Melcom Care Foundation, which provided 1,000 hot meals to five care institutions across Accra.

An inmate at the centre, Eric Badudiwoh, welcomed the donation but said more assistance was needed to support the centre’s work.

“We need more, more, more, more help. We need teaching materials… So, when we sit one on one, we can voice all this out, so that you can take it, and then whatever area you want to help, you’re welcome,” he said.

Mr Badudiwoh encouraged potential donors to engage directly with the centre to understand its needs and identify areas where they could offer further assistance.

Public Relations Officer of Melcom Ghana, Joseph Kpormegbey, said the Melcom Care Foundation was established to reflect the company’s commitment to giving back to society.

He said the foundation was inspired by the vision of the late chairman of Melcom Group, Bhagwan Ramchand Khubchandani, who believed in giving back to society.

“This week, we decided to visit selected orphanages and this Accra Rehabilitation Centre, so that we give back to society as part of our corporate social responsibility,” he said.

Mr Kpormegbey said the company was pleased to support the institutions, acknowledging the challenges involved in running care facilities.

“It’s not easy running a children’s home or a rehabilitation centre. That is why we believe that giving them the support will go a long way to assist them,” he said.

Responding to concerns about the need for additional resources, including teaching and building materials, Mr Kpormegbey said the foundation had taken note of the requests.

“Melcom is always doing its corporate social responsibility. So, once we have heard them, we have taken it in good faith,” he said, adding that the company would work towards providing the necessary assistance.

The five-day exercise, which ran from October 5 to 9, 2026, provided 200 hot meals each to five selected institutions, bringing the total to 1,000 meals.

The other beneficiaries were Osu Children’s Home, Teshie Children’s Home, Blissful Children’s Home and Nyamedua Children’s Home.
