Sekolah Rakyat gateway to Papua's future: Minister Yudhoyono

Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono says Sekolah Rakyat (People's Schools) is a gateway to a brighter future for Indonesia's younger generation in Papua.
"Sekolah Rakyat is a gateway to a bright future for Indonesia's next generation in Papua," Yudhoyono said in Jayapura on Friday during a visit to a Sekolah Rakyat there.
According to him, the construction of the integrated schools is being carried out by the central government through the Public Works Ministry in three areas of Papua.
"Construction of the integrated Sekolah Rakyat is currently being carried out by the Public Works Ministry in Sarmi district, Jayapura city, and Biak Numfor district, and based on the information we have received, it has so far reached only four percent," Yudhoyono said.
He explained that construction of the integrated schools, covering elementary through senior high school levels, is targeted for completion in March 2027.
"Based on the information we have received from the Public Works Ministry, construction of the integrated Sekolah Rakyat in the three areas of Papua will be completed by March 2027," Yudhoyono said.
He added that the funding disbursed from the State Budget (APBN) for the construction of the integrated Sekolah Rakyat in the three areas totals approximately Rp1 trillion.
Minister Yudhoyono expressed hope that the school construction would proceed smoothly, on schedule, and with high quality.
Sekolah Rakyat is a tuition-free boarding school program initiated by President Prabowo Subianto, covering elementary through senior high school levels, designed to help children from low-income families continue their education.
The government is building permanent sites of Sekolah Rakyat as part of a target to develop 500 schools by 2029.
