Asian Games 2026: India’s Sarvesh Kushare wins silver, ends 56-year wait for men’s high jump medal

India’s Sarvesh Kushare clinched silver in men’s high jump at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 in Japan on Sunday, ending the country’s 56-year wait for a medal in the discipline.

Sarvesh, the 31-year-old jumper from Maharashtra, became only the third Indian man after Ajit Singh (gold in 1954) and Bhim Singh (gold in 1966 and bronze in 1970) to win an Asian Games medallist in high jump.

Sarvesh and Chinese’s Taipei’s Fu Chao-hsuan both were tied at the top with a best clearance of 2.25m but on countback, Sarvesh had to settle for silver.
