Matiang’i Rejects Claims Of Uhuru Funding Opposition

Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i has dismissed claims that retired President Uhuru Kenyatta is funding the opposition, advising President William Ruto to focus on fulfilling his campaign pledges rather than seeking political scapegoats.

Speaking in Borabu Constituency, Nyamira County, alongside regional opposition figures, Matiang’i asserted that the push for political leadership and reform is driven entirely by ordinary citizens reacting to governance concerns rather than individual financiers.

Joining the criticism, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka urged the Head of State to prioritize core governance duties, including ending forced disappearances, curbing corruption, ensuring fair development distribution, and executing stalled public projects. Matiang’i expressed confidence in the opposition’s readiness to govern, assuring supporters that a future administration under their leadership would focus on public delivery.

The remarks coincided with broader opposition activity and internal shifts, including a ruling by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal that invalidated Moitalel Ole Kenta’s appointment as Jubilee Secretary-General over eligibility criteria. Simultaneously, in Kilifi County, People’s Renaissance Movement leader Caleb Amisi called for opposition unity behind a single presidential candidate while advocating for younger leadership to front the 2027 contest against the ruling coalition.
