Korean sales company Finecut has sold Journey There, starring The Umbrella Academy‘s Justin H. Min, to multiple territories. The Seoul-based company has also closed further deals on Hong Sangsoo’s Locarno film festival winner Nowhere To Lay My Eyes.

Journey There has gone to Japan (KDDI Corporation), Taiwan (Andrews Film), Mongolia (Izagur Media) and Israel (Lev Cinema), while Kairos Distribution has picked up inflight rights.

The film marks the first Korean production for Min who is known for roles in Netflix series Beef and The Umbrella Academy, as well as Kogonada’s After Yang.

Directed by Kim Jin-yu, Journey There follows a middle-aged woman who, after losing her husband, begins preparing for a journey of her own, only to encounter unexpected connections in her new apartment.

The film is Kim’s second following debut feature Bori, which won two awards at the Schlingel International Film Festival. Produced by Kim’s Pado production outfit, it has played at festivals including Moscow International Film Festival and the New York Asian Film Festival. Korean release is scheduled for October 28.

Nowhere To Lay My Eyes, which won Best Direction, Best Performance, and the Ecumenical Jury Prize in Locarno, has gone to France (Carlotta Films), Japan (Mimosa Films), Portugal (The Stone And The Plot) and Argentina (Kligger). It was previously sold to Austria (Filmgarten), China (Hugoeast), North America (The Cinema Guild), Spain (Atalante), Taiwan (Cola Films), and the UK (ICA).

Finecut negotiated the additional deals at the recently concluded Asian Contents & Film Market in Busan. The company is now moving on to the AFM in Los Angeles where it will be selling animated feature Long Long Night, which screened in Toronto, Busan and Sitges film festivals; Cannes Directors Fortnight title Dora; and fantasy romance Wi-Fi Love In The Palace, starring Kim Young-hoon.
