RI Govt to revitalize 1,487 schools in quake-hit NTT

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu'ti reaffirmed his ministry's commitment to restoring education in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) following a recent earthquake by revitalizing 1,487 schools across the province.

“Regarding our commitment to disaster-affected areas in NTT, we will revitalize 1,487 educational institutions in NTT alone,” the minister said during a working meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission X in Jakarta on Monday.

He emphasized that the ministry is determined to carry out the program as effectively as possible.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has previously allocated Rp1.2 trillion (around US$67 million) for the revitalization initiative in NTT.

The repairs will focus on severely damaged school infrastructure and classrooms that have had to rely on temporary structures.

This substantial budget underscores that improving educational facilities remains a top government priority, particularly for regions facing ongoing infrastructure challenges.

The ministry hopes the project will go beyond physical repairs to create a safer, healthier, and more supportive environment for teaching and learning.

Construction is set to begin as soon as the second phase of the additional budget allocation for the school revitalization program is recorded in the official budget execution document and disbursed to the schools.

Additionally, the ministry has distributed Rp860 million in initial emergency relief to dozens of schools affected by the earthquake in NTT.

Nationwide school revitalization is part of the Prabowo Subianto administration's quick-win programs aimed at ensuring all schools in the country have adequate facilities and infrastructure to support learning.

President Prabowo Subianto aims to complete the national school revitalization program for all targeted educational institutions by 2029.
