BEIJING: China's foreign exchange reserves, the world's largest, fell more than expected in September, central bank data showed on Wednesday, as the dollar regained strength.

The reserves came in at US$3.400 trillion last month, versus US$3.438 trillion a month earlier and economists' forecast of US$3.420 trillion in a Reuters poll.

During September, the yuan strengthened 0.22 per cent against the dollar, while the greenback rose 2.06 per cent against a basket of major currencies.
