KUDAT: A 56-year-old Filipino contract worker was electrocuted after the ladder he was using came into contact with an electrical cable while he was installing and repairing lights at a school in Batu 1 here today.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kudat Fire and Rescue Station chief Assistant Superintendent Darikson Galanang said the department received an emergency call at 8.31am, prompting nine firefighters to be dispatched to the scene.

"Upon arrival, firefighters found a man believed to have been electrocuted near the school gate.

"Initial investigations found that he was carrying out lighting installation and repair work when the ladder he was using came into contact with an electrical cable," he said in a statement today.

Darikson said firefighters contacted Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd to cut off the power supply before recovering the victim.

"The victim was brought to a safe area at 9.15am after the electricity supply was disconnected.

"However, Health Ministry personnel confirmed him dead at the scene," he said.

Darikson said the body was handed over to the police for further action.

The operation, which involved the police, Health Ministry and Sabah Electricity, ended at 9.46am.
