Former national security adviser Clarita Carlos has filed a cyberlibel complaint with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) against Rear Admiral Jay Tarriela, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, and Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Superintendent Lieutenant General Michael Logico.

According to Nimfa Ravelo's report on Super Radyo dzBB, NBI Director Melvin Matibag said the bureau will invite Tarriela and Logico.

Matibag reportedly did not disclose the basis of the cyberlibel complaint.

According to the report, the complaint came following a heated exchange between Tarriela and Carlos on social media over the remark of Chinese Ambassador Jing Quan that Beijing could "easily win" if it resorts to force against the Philippines.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Tarriela said he has yet to receive any summons or notive from the NBI regarding the complaint.

"I only learned of it through media reports. I have full trust in the professionalism of the NBI and its processes," Tarriela said.

"At this point, I will refrain from commenting on the merits since I have not seen the complaint and do not know the basis of the charges. Once I receive the formal notice, I will respond through the proper legal process," he added.

He also said that he will leave it up to the public to judge Carlos' statements for themselves. — VDV, GMA News
