Everything But The Girl Announce New Album Blue Reservoir, Share “Young and Dumb”

Turns out Everything But The Girl’s return was not a one-album affair. Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt have announced Blue Reservoir, their second album since ending a 24-year recording hiatus, arriving February 19th, 2027 via Buzzin’ Fly/Virgin Music Group. As a first preview, the duo have shared “Young and Dumb.”
While 2023’s Fuse brought Everything But The Girl back after their hiatus, Blue Reservoir grew out of something considerably smaller: a run of intimate shows at London’s 300-capacity MOTH Club. The residency began in 2025 as their first performances together in roughly 25 years and stretched to around 30 shows, reconnecting the two with the stripped-down approach at the root of their work.
“There was an intensity and simplicity to the MOTH shows that took us back to how we started out,” Thorn said in a statement. “Direct, rooted in guitar and voice, a few extra colors. We hadn’t been in that world for a long time and it just felt fresh and real.”
That feeling carried into “Young and Dumb,” which opens with Watt on Spanish nylon-string guitar before settling into a cool, swaying, bossa nova-influenced run. Watt bought the instrument at the beginning of 2026 and says it quickly became central to the writing process. “It became quite an emotional springboard for me,” he explained. “I found a voice I thought I’d lost.”
Nine of Blue Reservoir’s 10 songs were written on guitar, with one composed on piano. Everything But The Girl recorded most of the album live over 10 days at London’s RAK Studios in July, joined by longtime collaborators Rex Horan on double bass and Evan Jenkins on drums, as well as percussionist Fabio de Oliveira. Thorn and Watt’s son Blake Watt also appears on two tracks.

“Young and Dumb” arrives with an Edward Bishop-directed video based on a treatment by Thorn and Watt and, appropriately, filmed back at the MOTH Club. Watch it below, followed by the Blue Reservoir artwork and tracklist.
