Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” Sets Record For Longest-Running No. 1 Pop Single

UPDATED, 10:02 AM: All Mariah Carey‘s wants for Christmas this year is her record back.

Ella Langley‘s “Choosin’ Texas” has become the all-time Hot 100 champion with a 23rd week atop the Billboard singles chart, breaking the tie with Carey’s holiday ditty. The latter’s 22 weeks at the summit took multiple chart-year runs, making the Alabama native’s achievement that much more remarkable.

Here are the longest-running No. 1 hits in the Hot 100’s 68-year history:

Ella Langley’s stone smash “Choosin’ Texas” has racked up a phenomenal 20th week at No. 1 on the U.S. pop singles chart, becoming the first non-holiday single to hit the milestone. Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” holds the overall record with 22 weeks at the summit, but that includes chart-topping runs during the past seven years.

In many if not most ways, Langley’s feat is more remarkable. “Choosin’ Texas” first reached No. 1 way back in mid-February before it was dethroned by a pair of songs the next two weeks. It then hit the top again for a week and fell back three times before losing out for three more weeks and ascending to the throne again in early July. And the single Langley sings and co-wrote with Miranda Lambert and Joybeth Taylor has been No. 1 since.

During that stretch of chart-position leapfrog, the song made runners-up of such chart behemoths as Drake, Bad Bunny, Bruno Mars, BTS, Olivia Rodrigo, Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift — twice. Here’s the seven-minute official video for “Choosin’ Texas”:

Certified at six times platinum, the track has spent 28 weeks atop Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart since late November — one of only 32 songs ever to lead the pop and country tallies. “Choosin’ Texas” also reached No. 3 in the UK. It hails from Langley’s million-selling sophomore album Dandelion, which Columbia Records’ Sawgod imprint released on April 10.

“Choosin’ Texas” this week broke the tie with Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, which now sit at No. 3 among all-time longest-running Hot 100 chart-toppers with 19 weeks each.
