Prabowo targets RI stop importing oil and LPG within three years

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that Indonesia must stop importing oil and LPG within three years to strengthen national energy independence, as he launched the 100 GWp solar power program in Jembrana, Bali, on Tuesday.

"We must not import even a single barrel of oil anymore. We must not import. God willing, in the shortest time possible, not even a single canister of LPG," the president said, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat's official online broadcast in Jakarta.

Prabowo stated that the target must be supported by the construction of 100 gigawatts (GW) of solar power capacity and geothermal power plants, the development of gas fields, and increased national oil lifting.

According to him, the program is part of efforts to build a self-reliant Indonesia that is not dependent on developments or conditions in other countries.

The government aims to complete the construction within three years. This new capacity is nearly equivalent to the nation's current total electricity capacity of 88 GW from all energy sources.

"For perspective, Indonesia's total electricity capacity is currently 88 gigawatts from coal, oil, gas, and geothermal sources. We will build 100 gigawatts. Seriously. Our target is 100 gigawatts within three years," the president said.

The head of state noted that the development of renewable energy must proceed alongside efforts to strengthen domestic capabilities in meeting oil and gas needs.

"With 100 gigawatts, with our geothermal (resources), gas fields, and oil lifting that must continue to rise, we must not import even a single barrel of oil anymore," he added.

Energy independence is considered a crucial foundation for national sovereignty. Therefore, the Red and White Cabinet has been called upon to work hard, act courageously, and remain focused on achieving tangible results in managing national wealth for the people's welfare.

President Prabowo was also optimistic that this target could be achieved in less than three years.
