Confirmed: National anthem singers for FNB Stadium

In what is set to be a truly special match at FNB Stadium, over 80 000 supporters are set to pour into the iconic FNB Stadium to watch the Springboks take on the All Blacks, and many fans will have an interest in who will have the honour of singing the national anthems before kick off.

It has now been confirmed to TheSouthAfrican that the SA national anthem will be performed by well-known artist Belinda Davids, who will be hoping to set the scene for an unforgettable occasion on Saturday.

Born and raised in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), Davids is an internationally acclaimed vocalist renowned for her four-octave range and her uncanny ability to replicate the music of Whitney Houston.

Growing up in a musical family surrounded by gospel, the self-taught singer began performing professionally at age 14 before launching a recording career in South Africa during the 1990s and later working as a session and backing vocalist in Los Angeles for artists like Keyshia Cole and Monica.

Her global breakthrough came in 2013 when she beat out nearly 15,000 applicants to star as the lead in Showtime Australia’s The Greatest Love of All, a massive tribute tour celebrating Houston’s legacy.

Davids’ profile soared further after winning the BBC’s Even Better Than the Real Thing in 2017 and making a standout run to the semi-finals on Britain’s Got Talent in 2020, solidifying her status as one of the premier tribute performers in the world.

Special honour to sing the national anthem at FNB Stadium

Davids has performed Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika prior to several Springbok Test matches. Notable occasions include:

• Springboks vs British & Irish Lions (2021): Performed ahead of the second Test at Cape Town Stadium.
• Springboks vs All Blacks (2022): Sung at Ellis Park in Johannesburg before the second Test.
• Springboks vs Italy (2025): Delivered the anthem at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha, marking her first time performing the anthem for the national team in her hometown.

Meanwhile, the New Zealand anthem will be sung by Tarryn Lamb.

She is an award-winning South African singer, songwriter, and actress who first rose to prominence as the lead vocalist of the pop group BlackByrd before establishing a successful solo career in Afrikaans pop and starring in local television productions.  

Saturday’s match kicks off at 17:10 and will be broadcast live on SuperSport.

Excitement building

Rassie Erasmus said the Springboks were so excited about the opportunity to play in front of a packed out FNB Stadium.

“We are excited that we will be playing at the FNB stadium, where on a good day there is an 80 000 strong crowd, and that will be a new and exciting experience for our players because most of these players have never ran onto the field there, and the support we enjoy there will add to the occasion,” Erasmus commented during the team announcement this week.

“With the vuvuzelas and passionate crowd there, we can hardly hear one another on the field, so we are all thrilled about this occasion. But make no mistake, this is going to be another intense battle between the two top teams in the world who are both looking to get an edge in the series, so we know what we have to do, and composure and accuracy are going to be vital for both sides.”
