4 of family killed after being hit by speeding SUV on Jaipur highway

Four members of a family were killed and another was injured after a speeding SUV allegedly hit them on the Fagi-Chaksu Road in Jaipur district on Friday, police said.
The family was returning home to Kumhar locality on Diggi Road in Fagi after working in their fields when the car hit them on State Highway-2.
Police identified the deceased as Satyanarayan (65), his wife Manmouj (60), their daughters-in-law Amrita Devi (35) and Shimla Devi (23).
Satyanarayan’s son and Amrita’s husband, Badrinarayan Kumhar (38), was injured in the accident.
Badrinarayan said he was thrown to the side due to the impact of the collision, while the other four members of his family were crushed by the vehicle. “I was thrown away by the impact of the Bolero, but my parents, my wife and my younger brother’s wife were crushed before my eyes,” he said.
Locals alerted the police and ambulance services following the accident. Police reached the spot and the bodies were taken to Fagi Sub-District Hospital in a 108 ambulance.
Amrita is survived by a 15-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old son. Her five-year-old son had died in a road accident a few years ago. Shimla, who had studied nursing, is survived by her eight-month-old daughter, Vanshika. Her husband, Suresh, works with a jewellery company in Jaipur.
Madhorajpura Station House Officer (SHO) Randhir Singh said the driver fled after abandoning the vehicle at the accident site. “After the accident, the driver fled, leaving the SUV at the spot. Information about the driver is being gathered,” Singh said.
Following the accident, angry residents blocked the road, demanding ₹1 crore in compensation and contractual government jobs for the families of each of the deceased. Police and officials held talks with the protesters, following which the blockade was cleared.
Deputy chief minister Premchand Bairwa expressed grief over the deaths and said he had directed officials to extend all possible assistance to the affected families. “The news of the loss of lives in the road accident on SH-2 Chaksu Road in Fagi, Dudu Assembly constituency, is extremely sad and painful,” Bairwa said in a social media post.
Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal also expressed condolences to the bereaved family and demanded an investigation into the accident.
Police said an investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident was underway and efforts were being made to trace the driver.
