Trade Ministry introduces AI services at TEI 2026 for the first time

Tangerang (ANTARA) - Trade Ministry is introducing artificial intelligence (AI) services at Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2026 for the first time, aiming to unlock global market opportunities for Indonesian talent.

Fajarini Puntodewi, an official of the ministry, stated that the move is part of TEI's efforts to adapt to evolving global market demands.

"This is the first time we are introducing AI services," Puntodewi said during the TEI 2026 press conference in Tangerang District, Banten, Wednesday.

According to her, the inclusion of AI services enables prospective international buyers to order AI-based products and services developed by Indonesian talent.

"So, they can order these AI products from Indonesian talent," she said.

Puntodewi noted that global market demand is increasingly shifting toward high-tech, value-added products; therefore, the goods and services promoted at TEI must align with these changing needs.

She believes that the large domestic market can serve as a foundation for developing the national industry before expanding the marketing of these products and services internationally.

"The principle is to leverage our vast domestic market as an industrial base, and then promote the industrial output to the rest of the world," she stated.

Puntodewi added that the products showcased at TEI are tailored to market needs, giving Indonesian businesses a greater opportunity to expand their global reach.

The Trade Ministry had previously promoted Indonesia's AI capabilities through its participation in the 2026 China-ASEAN Expo (CAExpo) in Nanning, China, in September 2026.

On September 22, 2026, the ministry announced that Indonesia had won two awards at 2026 CAExpo, one of which was for "Special Contributor for AI Cooperation."

The development of the AI services market is also taking place amidst the growing adoption of the technology within the national economy.

In August 2026, the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs reported that revenue from AI-based features in Indonesia grew by 127 percent year-on-year during the first half of 2025.

Puntodewi hopes that the inclusion of AI services in TEI will catalyze Indonesia's AI industry to expand into overseas markets.

"Hopefully, this will also mark a turning point for the rise of our AI industry in the global market," Puntodewi said.

The 41st TEI will take place from October 14 to 18, 2026, at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD City, Tangerang District, Banten.
