Heavy rain causes ceiling leaks at Seberang Jaya Hospital

Translate

Heavy rain caused the ceiling to leak in several buildings at Seberang Jaya Hospital in Penang last night.

Penang health director Dr Zulhizzam Abdullah said most of the affected areas were in the older blocks, although some newer buildings also experienced similar problems.

“No patients were affected and there were no adverse consequences arising from the incident,” Bernama reported him as saying.

He said the hospital’s engineering and maintenance management department was taking steps to address the problem.

Several videos went viral earlier showing healthcare workers using umbrellas inside the hospital after rainwater leaked through the ceiling and covered parts of the floor.

The incident comes less than three weeks after part of the ceiling at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah in Klang collapsed following a pipe leak.

The Selangor health department said a preliminary investigation found that the leaking pipe had weakened the ceiling structure, causing it to collapse.

No one was hurt in that incident, and the affected walkway was reopened after repairs.
