Oga Obinna Explains Why Fractured Opposition Ticket Gives Ruto 2027 Advantage

Translate

Media personality Oga Obinna has weighed in on President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election prospects, arguing that competing ambitions among opposition leaders could shatter their unity and play directly into the incumbent’s hands.

In a political commentary shared on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Obinna pointed out that while replacing President Ruto is the main rally cry, agreeing on a single compromise candidate remains the biggest obstacle.

“So we want to replace President Ruto, right? So we are looking for someone else,” Obinna posed, questioning whether key figures could swallow their pride and back one flag bearer.

Obinna highlighted several prominent names frequently thrown into the mix, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Rigathi Gachagua, Fred Matiang’i, Edwin Sifuna, Jimi Wanjigi, former Chief Justice David Maraga, and activist Boniface Mwangi. He noted that each contender commands a loyal base expecting nothing short of the top seat.

“When you look at that setup, automatically you see the way it’s going to be very difficult for them to agree who is going to be the flag bearer,” Obinna observed.

He warned that even if opposition leaders managed to strike a backroom deal, supporter fallout could present an even bigger hurdle.

“The minute you find that Sifuna is not at the top seat… the minute Matiang’i is not at the top seat, the minute Kalonzo, the minute Riggy G,” he explained, noting that disgruntled supporters of overlooked aspirants might refuse to vote for the chosen ticket.

Obinna concluded that unless the opposition manages to resolve these internal rivalries and present a consolidated front, the fractured race will ultimate grant President Ruto a smooth path to a second term.
