Malaysian athletes resume Asian Games medal chase after dry day [WATCH]

NAGOYA: After a quiet day without medals yesterday, the Malaysian contingent will resume their hunt at the Asian Games across a number of sports today.

The sepak takraw squad will be looking to capture their first team regu gold at the continental showpiece since 1990. Standing in their way, however, are bitter rivals Thailand.

In athletics, national record holder Azeem Fahmi and Umaira Subri will continue their campaign in the men's 100m. The final, if they qualify, will be held later at night.

Umar Osman and Shereen Samson Vallabuoy will compete in the men's and women's 400m preliminaries while Sadat Ajisan will see action in the men's hammer throw. Nani Shahirah Maryata will contest the women's shot put.

Artistic gymnast Sharul Aimy Kamaru Hisam will compete in the men's vault final. He was a bronze medallist in the same event at the Hangzhou edition.

Squash players Ng Eain Yow (men's singles), S. Sivasangari and Aira Azman (women's singles), as well as mixed doubles pairs Aifa Azman-Syafiq Kamal and Ameeshenraj Chandaran-Rachel Arnold, will continue at the quarter-finals stage.

In shooting, Johnathan Wong and Nurul Syasya Ariffin will join forces for the 10m air pistol mixed team event.

In men's swimming, Dhuha Zulfikry and Khiew Hoe Yean will take to the pool for the 400m freestyle. Goh Li Jie, Tan Khai Xin will compete in the 200m butterfly and Andrew Goh will contest the 50m breaststroke.

In table tennis, Choong Javen will compete in the men's singles elimination round against Taiwan's Yi-Hsin Feng while in eSports, Malaysia will compete in the group stage of the Pokemon Unite competition.

In surfing, Mona Rasidah Abdul Rashid will compete in the opening round of the women's shortboard while equestrian rider Diani Lee will compete in the individual dressage qualifiers.

Shuttlers Aaron Chia-Tee Kai Wun, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani (men's doubles), Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah and Low Zi Yu-Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan (women's doubles) will feature in the opening round.
