An Se-young pulled off a comeback against Akanae Yamaguchi to win the Korea Open 2026 women’s singles title at Jinnam Gymnasium in Yeosu, South Korea, on Sunday.
Se-young won the first game 21-12 but lost the next 15-21, forcing a tense decider between the current and former World No. 1s. However, Se-young continued to dominate the proceedings in the third game, taking it 21-16.
With the victory, Se-young achieved her 11th consecutive win for a second season in a row.
It was also Se-young’s redemption against the former World No. 1 from Japan. At the 2025 Korea Open final, Yamaguchi had beaten Se-Young in straight games, winning 21-18, 21-13. This time around, despite Yamaguchi’s attempt to get back into the contest with a win in the second game, the Korean had the last laugh on home soil.
