Landslide blocks Ilocos Sur road as Candon City reels from floods

SAN ILDEFONSO, Ilocos Sur — A landslide blocked a portion of the municipal road leading to Barangay Lapting in Nagbukel town, Ilocos Sur, amid persistent rain.
Personnel of the Nagbukel Municipal Police Station, led by acting chief of police Maj. Alberto Ramos Jr., responded to the reported landslide and coordinated a road-clearing operation.
Police worked with personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Bureau of Fire Protection-Nagbukel and barangay officials to remove soil and debris from the affected portion.

The clearing operation was conducted to restore safe and continuous passage along the road.
In Candon City, several houses in Barangay San Nicolas were submerged as floodwaters rose amid persistent heavy rains.
The local government of Salcedo town also reminded residents to avoid fishing and other dangerous activities along the Buaya River and other identified hazard-prone areas amid heavy rainfall.
Picnicking, gatherings, and other recreational activities along the Buaya River are temporarily prohibited during the rainy season as a safety precaution. /mcm
