The Kano State Police Command has rescued the Sarkin Noman Kano, Alhaji Yusif Nadabo, after suspected bandits abandoned him while fleeing a police operation during a failed kidnap attempt in Garun Mallam Local Government Area of the state.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Friday when the attackers reportedly invaded Garun Mallam town and began shooting into the air.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday night.

According to him, the gunmen abducted the traditional title holder during the attack, while three residents sustained gunshot injuries.

The injured victims were identified as 20-year-old Yusif Nasiru, Salisu Garba and Ibrahim Hassan, all residents of Garun Mallam town.

Kiyawa said police tactical and patrol teams, supported by personnel from neighbouring divisions, were immediately deployed after receiving a distress call.

He said the officers, working with members of the community, pursued the attackers, forcing them to abandon the victim and flee.

“The Police, in collaboration with members of the community, gave the hoodlums a hot chase. Consequently, the bandits abandoned the kidnapped victim and fled the scene,” he said.

Kiyawa said the rescued Sarkin Noman Kano was unharmed.

He added that the traditional title holder and the three injured residents were taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

The command said confidence-building patrols had been intensified in and around Garun Mallam to prevent further security breaches.

It added that a manhunt had been launched to arrest the fleeing suspects.
