The Nigeria Police Force and the National Peace Committee led by General Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.) have stepped up efforts to contain rising political tension and alleged inciting comments as campaigns for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.

The Nigeria Labour Congress has rejected the latest petrol price hike by the Dangote Refinery, describing it as avoidable and demanding that more Nigerian crude be supplied to domestic refineries.

Gunmen have killed two people and abducted the All Progressives Congress Chairman of Rogo Local Government Area in Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Fanka, in an overnight attack.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and the West African Examinations Council have fixed the WASSCE O’Level result verification fee at N4,000, payable once through JAMB for candidates seeking tertiary admission.

The police have begun investigating controversial remarks by political figures, including threats allegedly issued by a Borno commissioner, a Kuje Area Council chairman and an Osun senator.

2. NLC rejects petrol price hike, demands more crude for refineries

The Nigeria Labour Congress has condemned the Dangote Refinery’s latest increase of petrol gantry price from N1,200 to N1,265 per litre, the third adjustment in eight days.

Acting General Secretary Benson Upah said the hike was avoidable given falling international oil prices and Nigeria’s refining capacity. The congress questioned why more domestic crude is not being supplied to the refinery.

3. Kano APC chief abducted, two killed

Gunmen invaded Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State around 11pm on Monday, killing two people who tried to prevent the abduction of the APC local government chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Fanka.

The attack followed similar incidents in neighbouring communities within 72 hours, including the killing of another APC ward chairman. Police efforts to reach the command’s spokesperson for an update were unsuccessful.

4. WASSCE result verification fee now N4,000

JAMB and WAEC have clarified that candidates will pay N4,000 only once to verify their WASSCE O’Level results through the JAMB platform.

Tertiary institutions are to use the verified results shared by JAMB and must not demand another verification fee. The arrangement is designed to reduce costs and repeated checks during the admission process.

5. Manufacturers invest N6.8tn as weak customer demand bites

Data from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria show investors pumped about N6.8tn into the sector between 2015 and 2025, with annual investment rising to N1.33tn in 2025.

However, high inflation, currency depreciation and rising costs have eroded household purchasing power, leaving manufacturers with rising inventories and weak demand. More than 100 manufacturing companies have shut down over the past decade.
