On the latest episode of her podcast Don't Judge Me, Belgravia nutritionist to the stars Gabriela Peacock casts an eye over the eating habits of businesswoman Lauren Cowell, wife of X Factor judge Simon Cowell.

Peacock, a qualified nutritional therapist whose clients include Princess Beatrice, founded GP Nutrition, the supplement brand that sponsors the show.

During a fridge raid, Lauren, 49, reveals she never leaves home without a bag of nuts, although there is one variety she isn't a fan of: the Brazil nut.

'I actually really like the ones you throw away,' Peacock said. 'They have very high levels of selenium.'

Asked what the mineral does, she replied: 'It's a really good antioxidant. It's another kind of mineral which you need in your diet. It's very important for your hair.'

Selenium is an essential mineral that supports normal hair growth, but experts warn that more is not better. A single Brazil nut can cover your daily needs, and the advice is to stick to one to three a day, as too much can actually cause hair loss.

'I love the protein, and I love the fact that you're conscious of protein as well,' the nutritionist said.

'As we get older, we need more protein. All the maintenance within our body rejuvenates with it, so it's absolutely essential.'

'From my experience, it's one macronutrient people really lack,' she added. 'It's a vegan source of protein as well, as opposed to animal sources, and walnuts are especially good for cognitive function.'

Elsewhere in the episode, Lauren confessed to a guilty pleasure for Lucky Charms, revealed she gave up both alcohol and smoking on the same day around 18 months ago, and said the best thing about nearing 50 is that she no longer cares what people think.
