The camp of Senator Loren Legarda is seeking another extension of her medical leave, Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian said Wednesday.

“Nagpapadala sila ng extension for medical leave,” Gatchalian told GMA News’ Unang Balita when asked about information on Legarda’s possible return after her leave expires on Friday.

(They are sending an extension for medical leave.)

“Sa pagkakaalam ko, nagpapatingin at nagpapahinga si Senator Loren. Sabi ko sa mga unang interview na bago siya nag-file ng medical leave, nakapag-usap kami at sabi niya meron siyang medical condition na seryoso at ito yung kanyang parte ng kanyang pagtitingin dito sa seryosong sakit niya,” he added.

(As far as I know, Senator Loren is getting checked and resting. I said in the previous interviews that before she filed for medical leave, we talked and she said she has a serious medical condition and this is part of her treatment for her serious illness.)

Legarda has been on medical leave beginning August 3. The last time she was seen at the Senate was on July 29 during the plenary session.

Her spokesperson Atty. Tony La Viña earlier said she was undergoing medical treatment in France for a lung and autoimmune condition and was taking time to rest, as her condition worsens under stress or tension.

Gatchalian said Legarda would be allowed to vote in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte if she returns to the Senate and is present during the voting.

He said senators had previously clarified the rules on who would be counted among those eligible to vote in the impeachment proceedings.

Under the Senate's agreed rules, senators who did not participate in the trial or hear the witnesses would not be counted among those eligible to vote on the final judgment. — RSJ, GMA News
