Delia Smith’s husband Michael Wynn Jones dies aged 85

Michael Wynn Jones, the husband of celebrity chef Delia Smith, has died at the age of 85.

Mr Wynn Jones was also the honorary life president of Norwich City Football Club.

He was a joint majority shareholder of the club, alongside his wife, until 2024 when American billionaire Mark Attanasio took over.

Norwich announced Mr Wynn Jones’ death on its website on Monday afternoon.

It said that he had died peacefully at home that morning.

“He will be greatly missed,” the statement said.

“His family are grateful for the wonderful care provided by the community nursing team at St Elizabeth Hospice in Ipswich.

“Our deepest condolences are with Delia and Tom, and with all of Michael’s family, friends and loved ones.

“At the family’s request, we ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.”

Mr Wynn Jones’s parents were a Church of England vicar and a teacher.

He studied at the University of Oxford and married Ms Smith in 1971 in Stowmarket, Suffolk.

He was the deputy editor of the Daily Mirror's midweek supplement Mirror Magazine and The Spectator, and established New Crane Publishing, which produced some of his wife's books.

The couple, who were based in Stowmarket, were deeply involved with Norwich and oversaw a number of promotions to the Premier League.

“Such sad news, he stayed out of the limelight but all at [the club] owe him so much,” former Norwich forward Darren Huckerby said on X.
