Ausilio closing in on agreement with Tottenham after 28 years with Inter

Multiple outlets in Italy are reporting that former Inter director Piero Ausilio is closing in on an agreement to take over as the new sporting director at Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur after his 28-year career with the Nerazzurri. 

Ausilio officially left his position as sporting director at Inter on September 2, the day after the summer transfer window had come to an end and has since been replaced by his long-term deputy Dario Baccin. 

Ausilio had originally joined Inter as a secretary with the youth teams all the way back in the late 1990s before progressing through various roles and eventually into the position of sporting director, a role that he held for well over a decade. 

The Nerazzurri won three Serie A titles, three Coppa Italias and three trophies in the Supercoppa Italiana as well as reaching the Champions League final twice and the Europa League final once. 

Reports over the weekend suggested that Ausilio had been approached by Tottenham to take over as sporting director following the end of his time in San Siro. 

Now, according to reports from various outlets in Italy including La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ausilio is closing in on an agreement with Tottenham. The Pink Papers claims that it is looking like a matter of ‘when’ and not ‘if’ Ausilio goes to Spurs. 

He would find several Italian connections in North London, most obviously head coach Roberto De Zerbi and players Sandro Tonali and Destiny Udogie. 

Ausilio would also be the second Italian sporting director at Tottenham following the tenure of Fabio Paratici, who is now at the helm at Fiorentina.
