Michelle Keegan's top-rated TV show is a "brilliant" BBC period drama – and it's streaming now

Translate

If you enjoyed The Blame earlier this year and wanted to watch another series starring Michelle Keegan, then you're in luck, as the actor's highest-rated project is currently streaming in the UK.

Ten Pound Poms is a period drama from series creator and co-writer Danny Brocklehurst, who has worked with Keegan on other popular shows such as Ordinary Lies, Brassic and Fool Me Once.

The series depicts the story of several British women, who emigrate to Australia and New Zealand following the end of World War II. Though they are promised a better life, not everything comes easily.

Having aired 12 episodes on BBC One across two seasons in 2023 and 2025, the series is now streaming in full on BBC iPlayer, though you only have four months in total to binge the whole set.

Keegan leads the cast as Kate Thorne, while Warren Brown and Faye Marsay play Terry and Annie Roberts respectively. Brocklehurst, who also serves as a producer, co-wrote the series with Ryan Griffen, Smita Bhide and Ava Pickett.

With a solid approval rating of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes for its first season, Ten Pound Poms is actually the highest-rated TV series in Keegan's career, with much of the praise going to its cast.

"Ten Pound Poms is a watchable drama about the difficulties Brits had in Australia during the post-WWII immigration movement," opined Decider, while The i called it "a well-executed, earnest period piece with committed performances and likeable characters".

"This is enjoyable enough, nicely compelling, and a real education for those not familiar with the Ten Pound Poms story," wrote The Guardian, while one user on IMDb described it as "brilliant".

In terms of Digital Spy's own opinion, we ranked it as the seventh best show in Keegan's career to date, though we think that Tina and Bobby, The Blame and Our Girl are better overall.

Though it was popular with critics and viewers alike, it doesn't look likely that the story of the Ten Pound Poms will continue, as the BBC confirmed last year that it had no plans to proceed with a third season.

Ten Pound Poms is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
