Ryan Murphy issues exciting Glee reboot update and confirms some original cast are "enthusiastic"

Ryan Murphy may currently be in the middle of promoting the latest season of American Horror Story, but the television producer has teased that several cast members from Glee are "enthusiastic" about rebooting the series.

The musical comedy-drama ran for six seasons and 121 episodes between 2009 and 2015, with the action focusing on the members of New Directions - a glee club on the show choir circuit - at the fictional William McKinley High School.

Though the series ended over a decade ago, its legacy has endured, with rumours of a continuation being rife. Nothing has materialised on that front, though Murphy has revealed that there could be a change very soon.

"Well, funny you ask, because I just finished the script an hour ago," he told Entertainment Tonight. "So, we have a script. Brad [Falchuk], Ian [Brennan] and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something."

"I've been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members. It's very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea," added Murphy, who also produced the series.

"Nobody's read it, so I don't know. We'll see. I vowed to myself that I wanted to write a couple of them to see what people think, particularly the cast, because we were very close when we were making it."

Murphy, who is also known for The Shards and The Beauty, had recently teased that a reboot for Glee could be on the cards, with the producer hinting that it could be time "revisit" the musical comedy-drama.

"Well, I loved them all. I had a great time making that show," he told PEOPLE in July. "That show is interesting because it's come back around. So many young people now watch it. And I'm like, 'Maybe we should revisit that show.'"

"My nostalgia and love for that show is enough that I'm like, 'Well, maybe people would like to see a new incarnation of that in some capacity.' So yeah, I love that show, and I loved what it became and what it meant to so many people."
