Ex-Kaizer Chiefs striker ties the knot with Zimbabwean football executive

Translate

Former Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United striker Kingston Nkhatha has reportedly tied the knot, bringing the Zimbabwean footballer into the spotlight for a milestone away from the football pitch.

Nkhatha, who spent two-and-a-half seasons with the Soweto giants, is best remembered by South African football supporters for his time in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), where he also represented SuperSport United.

The wedding confirmation

Zimbabwean sports broadcaster Yvonne Tendai Mangunda confirmed the wedding in a social media post, revealing that she was among the guests at the ceremony.

“Today I am at Kwekwe United CEO Bridgette Mudhosi and former Zimbabwe, Kaizer Chiefs and Supersport forward Kingston Nkhatha’s wedding. A lovely all black affair,” Mangunda wrote.

She also revealed that she had missed Mudhosi’s bridal shower the previous weekend while visiting Claire, but made sure to attend the wedding.

The Herald also described Kingston Nkhatha and Bridget Mudhosi as a “football couple” in a social media post confirming their marriage.

“Football couple……Former Kaizer Chiefs and Dynamos player Kingston Nkhatha tied the knot with Central Region Soccer League side Kwekwe United president Bridget Mudhosi over the weekend,” the publication posted.

The description reflects the couple’s links to Zimbabwean football, with Nkhatha having played for clubs including Kaizer Chiefs, SperSport United and Dynamos, while Mudhosi serves as president of Kwekwe United.

Nkhatha’s Kaizer Chiefs journey

Nkhatha joined Kaizer Chiefs from Black Leopards in July 2012 after the two clubs reached an agreement over his transfer.

According to an announcement published on the club’s official website, the Zimbabwean forward signed a three-year deal with Amakhosi.

His arrival marked an important step in a career that had seen him play for several clubs in Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Before joining Chiefs, Nkhatha had featured for Free State Stars, Carara Kicks and Black Leopards in South Africa.

The striker made his league debut for Chiefs in August 2012, scoring in a 6-0 victory over AmaZulu, according to his career record.

Why Nkhatha left Amakhosi

In January 2015, Chiefs confirmed that Nkhatha had been released early after agreeing to join SuperSport United.

The club’s football manager, Bobby Motaung, thanked the striker for his contribution and wished him well for the future.

Nkhatha had initially been expected to leave when his contract expired later that year, but an agreement between the two clubs allowed him to make the move during the January transfer window.

His departure ended a spell of approximately two-and-a-half years with the Soweto outfit.

He subsequently continued his career with SuperSport United before returning to Zimbabwean football.
