PN banks on local, professional candidates for Melaka polls

Translate

KOTA BARU: Perikatan Nasional is confident that its candidates for the Melaka election, scheduled to be announced tonight, can secure voters' support.

PN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the line-up comprises individuals from diverse backgrounds, including locals and professionals who are active in community work.

"The candidates that PN will field are local figures and professionals who are heavily involved in community activities.

"They are also well known. God willing, our candidates will gain the support of voters in Melaka," he said when contacted.

Commenting on which party will contest the most state legislative assembly seats, Tuan Ibrahim said the matter would only be confirmed after the official announcement.

"Let us wait for tonight's announcement regarding the breakdown of parties and seats," he said.

It was previously reported that Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had confirmed seat negotiations with Pas for the Melaka election had been finalised.

Under the arrangement, BN confirmed it would contest 21 state seats, while Pas and its allies would contest seven.
