19-year-old fishing crew member dies aboard vessel in Occidental Mindoro

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — A 19-year-old fishing crew member died aboard a fishing banca along the river in Barangay Balansay, at the Occidental Mindoro town of Mamburao on Aug. 20, according to the Philippine Coast Guard in a report on Friday (Aug.  21). 

The Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) in Mamburao responded after receiving a report about the banca incident and coordinated with the Mamburao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Mamburao Municipal Police Station.

The responding team proceeded to the fishing banca and assisted in retrieving the crew member’s body, which was later brought to a local funeral service for proper handling.

Initial information showed that the crew member experienced severe stomach and chest pain the previous evening. He was later found unresponsive aboard the vessel.

A post-mortem examination conducted by the municipal health officer determined cardiopulmonary arrest as the immediate cause of death.

The PCG said it coordinated with the concerned authorities to ensure the proper turnover of the deceased and completion of the necessary procedures. INQ
