Mary Robertson’s docuseries about ‘Friends’ star Matthew Perry has been released online, touching upon the actor’s career over the years, his struggles with substance abuse, and the legacy he left behind.
Along with archival footage and never-before-seen content, one of the main focal points of the three-part series was interviews with Perry’s sister, Mia Perry Bowick. During the series, Mia opened up about several instances from the actor’s life, including him filming the TV show while struggling with addiction, and even revealed that while their father, John Bennett Perry, would have been a part of the docuseries, he was simply too ill to give the interviews.

While talking about her and Matthew’s father, Mia revealed that while he would have loved to be a part of the series, he had been “ill for a long time.” She also added that he would have “loved to be able to participate in helping to share the story of his son.” She also added, “But unfortunately, he’s just not well enough to do that. And it really fell to me to be able to talk about the Perry side of the family.”The 85-year-old was also a former model and actor himself who had Matthew in 1969 with Suzanne Morrison.
The series also explores his relationship with his son and how Perry grew up watching his father act on the small screen in TV shows and other projects. Mia also added, “I haven’t heard [my father] talk like himself in so long. My dad would be like, my dad would say, ‘He was a fighter. He never gave up. He was so strong.’ He would just hit the positives.
I think my dad was extremely proud of how hard Matthew worked to get well. And he backed him up 100 per cent in anything he wanted to do to get well.
And we were all so grateful to Matthew for doing that—for never giving up, for always trying.”The beloved actor passed away in October 2023 after he was found unresponsive at his home in his hot tub. After further investigation into his passing, it was revealed that the actor had passed away due to “acute effects of ketamine.” Five people were charged with different counts for supplying him with ketamine, supplying him with the substance, injecting him with it, and creating false medical reports for the actor.
This included his own live-in personal assistant, along with two doctors.
